Petredec Joins Global Leaders at IEA Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa

Singapore – The urgent need for clean cooking solutions in Africa is undeniable. With 2.3 billion people worldwide still reliant on polluting fuels like wood and charcoal to cook their daily meals, the toll on health, gender equality and the environment remains staggering 1.

600,000 Africans, primarily women and children, succumb to indoor pollution-related illnesses annually, highlighting the critical need for transformative action 2.

Petredec, one of the world’s leading LPG value chain companies, proudly announces its participation in the International Energy Agency (IEA) Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa. This landmark event, scheduled for 14th May 2024 in Paris, aims to catalyse efforts toward universal access to clean cooking solutions across the African continent.

Nearly four in five Africans rely on polluting cooking fuels 1, emphasising the need for cleaner energy solutions like LPG. Petredec’s attendance underscores its dedication to providing cleaner energy to those that need it – a philosophy that runs deep with Petredec having made a series of investments in LPG infrastructure and distribution systems stretching back more than a decade.

“Petredec is privileged to participate in the IEA Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa. We believe that overcoming infrastructure challenges is crucial for expanding access to clean cooking solutions like LPG in sub-Saharan Africa,” said James Bullen, Head of Downstream at Petredec.

The high-level summit, co-chaired by international leaders including H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, and H.E. Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of Norway, will focus on elevating clean cooking on the global agenda, mobilising financial commitments and developing action plans for scaling clean cooking efforts across Africa.

As the leading supplier of LPG in Southern Africa, Petredec’s involvement in the summit aligns with its mission to ensure that clean energy, like LPG, reaches every corner of sub-Saharan Africa.
