Petredec, a leading LPG value chain company, is proud to announce the launch of the Tanga LPG Terminal project, a landmark open-access facility that will bolster energy security and support Tanzania’s clean cooking objectives championed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan. Set to be the largest of its kind in the country, the terminal is being developed in partnership with the ASAS Group of Companies, a long-established Tanzanian conglomerate and leader in fuel and LPG transport, whose involvement will help extend the terminal’s impact well beyond Tanzania’s borders.
Strategically located on a 26-hectare site in Chongoleani, Tanga Bay, the terminal will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, including six mounded LPG storage spheres capable of storing 40,000 cubic metres in its first phase, eight truck loading gantries and a 2.8 km underwater pipeline. With the ability to handle Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs), currently unable to dock at Tanzanian ports, the Tanga LPG terminal will serve as a major hub for the region, improving affordability and reliability of LPG supply while reducing reliance on the Port of Dar es Salaam.
LPG is the most practical and immediate solution for enabling clean cooking, combating deforestation and bringing efficient energy to off-grid locations, which represent the majority of East African territories. Thanks to the support of the Government of Tanzania, this project will help make this ambition a reality and foster a thriving ecosystem of enterprises, both small and large, that will extend energy access to even the most rural parts of Tanzania.

Having awarded the EPC contract and completed development of the access road, full-scale construction of the Tanga LPG Terminal is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with completion targeted for the end of 2027.
