Petredec, one of the world’s leading Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) trading and shipping companies, continues its programme of onshore investments in South Africa with the acquisition of Vryheid Petroleum which joined its Petrefuel division at the end of 2021.
Founded in Northern KwaZulu-Natal in 1997, Vryheid Petroleum (VP) had expanded to cover the Ladysmith, Pietermaritzburg and Vryheid areas by the time of the acquisition by Petredec. Supplying a network of its own Edge-branded service stations, VP also brings a significant wholesale and distribution business, supplying Diesel, Petrol and Lubricants to customers from a system of depots using its own fleet of vehicles. Now being integrated within the Petrefuel system, the former VP operations join an already strong system in KZN that includes the former Jubane Petroleum and Oilco businesses and in the wider SA market the former Quest Petroleum business.
As part of the groupwide investment in the Fuels distribution sector, Petredec has also begun rolling out the latest format of its EZEE EXPREZ convenience store across the Quest network of 100+ service stations. The typically 1,800sq ft stores feature Coffee-to-go, an in-store bakery and ATM alongside a range of approximately 1,500 C-Store goods in a modern, consumer-focused retail environment.
Commenting on the latest developments Petredec CEO Giles Fearn said, “adding the Vryheid Petroleum business to our group completes our coverage of an important geographic territory for Petrefuel and we welcome the team and VP’s customers to the Petredec family. The launch of the new EZEE EXPREZ convenience store format demonstrates our commitment to elevate the consumer experience at all Quest service stations and is part of our ongoing investment programme to upgrade and expand the entire network.”
